There is a long and interesting history related to the organic foods. Before World War II that is in the 20th century there was a considerable in biochemistry and engineering. This had a rapid and profound change in farming. Later on there were technological advances during World War II which introduced mechanization, fertilization and pesticides. In the 21st Century, the focus of agricultural research and publicized scientific findings turned to organic farming and Methods of Organic Farming.
Speaking of the History of Organic Foods, we must know about the introduction of the gasoline-powered internal combustion engine which made possible hundreds of mechanized farm implements in the pre world war era. Later on nitrogen fertilizer was manufactured which was first synthesized in the mid-1800s. The implementation of organic agriculture began simultaneously in Central Europe and India. Sir Albert Howard, the father of modern organic agriculture, worked as an agricultural adviser in Pusa in Bengal from 1905 to 1924. He is famous for documenting traditional Indian farming practices. An Agricultural Testament, written by him, has influenced many scientists and farmers of the day.
History says that in Germany, biodynamic agriculture developed by Rudolf Steiner's was probably the first comprehensive organic farming system. Steiner offered emphasis on the good farming and its methods of guiding and balancing the interaction of the animals, plants and soil. Animals remain healthy if they survive on healthy plants, healthy soil for a healthy manure. Later on in Japan, a microbiologist named Masanobu Fukuoka began to doubt the modern agricultural movement. On the later part of his life he developed Fukuoka farming.
After the World War II, technology saw a great progress. With that there was a huge progress in the manufacture methods and agriculture. The methods of farming were now more mechanized with better quality of fertilization and pesticides. There were two chemicals which were produced in quantity for warfare. But after the war, they were used for agricultural purpose. During this time the sophisticated farm machinery allowed a single farmer to work over larger areas of land. Thus, the fields grew bigger.
Throughout this history, the focus of agricultural research was on chemical rather than organic farming. But in the 20th century, with the advancement of genetic engineering, many types of Organic Food were produced. Earlier, organic farming was chiefly related to small, independent producers and consumers. But now, the growth of organic market in leaps and bounds has encouraged the participation of agribusiness interests. With the increase in the volume and variety of "organic" products, the viability of the small-scale organic farm is at risk. Soviet Union collapsed in 1989 and along with it the economic support of Cuba was shattered. Cuba has had to produce food in creative ways to save itself. This unique situation has made organic food production a necessity in Havana, Cuba.
